The Rt. Reverend Susan Goff, Bishop of Virginia, in response to the spread of Covid-19, has temporarily halted public worship. According to the CDC, and public health officials, social distancing is the most effective method to stem the spread of the virus, and the best way to protect the most vulnerable in our community.
But worship can happen wherever you are. With the gift of technology, here is “Emmanuel at Home Morning Prayer Archive” inclusive of all services: March 15, 2020 to the present. This is an easy way to revisit the music, prayers and homily from a particular Sunday.
“Emmanuel at Home” follows the ancient practice of Jewish and monastic tradition, which the Episcopal Church has long observed, of daily prayer: morning; noon; evening; and night. The service can be led by anyone and can be celebrated anywhere. It is particularly suited to those Sundays, when as a congregation we are unable to gather. These services have been celebrated at kitchen tables, in dining rooms, on balconies and in backyards.
This liturgy also includes blessings from the The Book of Occasional Services over your food and drink, Sunday morning breakfast or evening meal. Though we are unable to celebrate the Holy Eucharist together, we are still in communion with Christ and one another.
In addition, each service includes:
- Scripture, lectionary readings of the day
- Hymns with lyrics
- Homily, audio & text
- Sunday School@Home materials for children
- Offertory, with link to e-giving, for the financial support of Emmanuel’s ministry to the parish and community
The archive will be updated each week. Please, feel free to share.
